New Hampshire presidential campaign history: statewide walk has solid start

Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin launched his statewide march against Northern Pass, “Operation Walk The Line,” with an inspirational rally Friday evening (July 29th) and a Saturday morning march. Martin’s “Long March” continues Sunday morning, July 31st beginning at 11:30 A.M. in West Stewartstown. Martin’s walk is the first time any presidential candidate in either party has attempted a walk across the entire State of New Hampshire.

Marching began Saturday and continues Sunday morning

Martin’s rally Friday night observed a moment of silence for Celina Cass as well as for another young lady who is ill

Martin’s march got off to a quick start Saturday as the marchers began in Pittsburg and ended in West Stewartstown; the march will resume Sunday morning as marchers scour their route for any possible evidence that could aid law enforcement in the search for Celina Cass.

Northern Pass attempted to sabotage “Operation Walk The Line” with an email campaign attacking Andy Martin; “They failed,” Martin says. “I am complimented that Northern Pass feels threatened by my presidential campaign’s work on behalf of New Hampshire citizens”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATTENTION NATIONAL AND NEW HAMPSHIRE DAYBOOK/ASSIGNMENT EDITORS

(COLEBROOK, NH)(July 31, 2011) Independent Republican Presidential candidate Andy Martin began his statewide march against Northern Pass, “Operation Walk The Line,” Saturday morning, July 30th in Pittsburg. The marchers assisted the search for missing North Country schoolgirl Celina Cass by scouring the state highway between Pittsburg and West Stewartstown. The march will resume Sunday morning, July 31st in West Stewartstown and continue along Route 3 to Colebrook.

FRIDAY RALLY IN COLEBROOK:

“Operation Walk The Line” began with a rally Friday evening at the Colebrook Country Club. Bulldog Live Brian Tilton of WTPL-FM was the master of ceremonies as speakers addressed the group. Julie Moran, a leader of the North Country anti-Northern Pass movement, exhorted the audience to keep up the pressure. Moran was followed by State Representative Larry Rappaport, who reported on legislative progress and prospects for future legislative action. Rappaport is a leading defender of property rights in the General Court.

Finally, Tilton introduced Presidential Candidate Andy Martin. Martin explained why he supports Northern Pass’ opponents. Andy also explained why New Hampshire is critical to the presidential nominating process and why the money-grubbing Iowa caucuses that bar participation by men and women in military uniform are a disgrace to democracy.

The rally ended at approximately 9:45 P.M.

“We are providing a forum and a fulcrum for Northern Pass opponents to mold their opposition into an effective statewide lobby,” Martin says. “My presidential campaign is acting as the catalyst to move the opposition movement from being seen as a North Country ‘protest’ movement into an effective and coordinated citizens lobby against the proposed power line. Northern Pass would cut the state in half, causing state property values to plummet and killing off the last vestiges of economic opportunity in the North Woods.

“My presidential platform is simple and straightforward: get people back to work and allow Americans to live their lives and raise their families with dignity, privacy and opportunity. Young people need a reason to come home after college to build their lives in the economically vulnerable communities of the state. Without jobs, the North Country will die off and become even more vulnerable to energy predators such as Hydro-Quebec and Northern Pass.

“It is my pleasure to be able to contribute the resources of my presidential campaign to helping save the North Country from Northern Pass. We invite those who share my views to join this ongoing effort.

“We are not going to defeat Northern Pass with a one-day walk, or a one-off meeting. Fighting heavyweight corporations takes a heavyweight opposition. My presidential campaign brings that heavyweight experience to the battle against Northern Pass (see http://www.andymartin.com/ for Andy’s record of consumer reform]. My credibility and experience is no doubt why Northern Pass sent out emails before the rally seeking to sabotage my efforts and trying to discourage the opposition. Northern Pass failed. We need to hammer away at Hydro-Quebec consistently and conspicuously. My national reputation as a corruption fighter and conservative political activist helps organize the opposition and ensures that Northern Pass will not fade from public view,” Martin says. "What’s not to like?

“It was immensely amusing to lean that Northern Pass operatives tried to sabotage the rally with email attacks on me,” Martin observed. “The email smears failed. People are not stupid; they can see why Northern Pass would want to discredit me. Frankly, the fact that Northern Pass is attacking me is a sure sign we are succeeding in building a strong opposition to the transmission line.”

SATURDAY MARCH REPORT:

“It is truly an extraordinary opportunity to see New Hampshire’s beauty by walking on the ground,” Andy says. “Good exercise too. We began in Pittsburg Saturday morning at 9:00 A.M. and marched until the afternoon when we arrived at the junction of Route 3, Vermont 253 and Bridge Street in West Stewartstown. That’s where we will start Sunday morning July 31st at 11:30 A.M. As we marched we searched the roadway for any possible clues to Celina Cass.

“The marchers kept up a brisk pace, stopping only to observe areas threatened by the Northern Pass proposal. We walked, and walked, and walked. And we are going to resume walking on Sunday morning.”

Martin will attend St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Colebrook at 10:00 A.M. Sunday before heading back to West Stewartstown.

SUNDAY MARCH DETAILS:

The Long March will resume Sunday morning in West Stewartstown where walking ended Saturday afternoon. Andy will start marching at the junction of Route 3, Vermont 253 and Bridge Street in West Stewartstown at 11:30 A.M. and will continue down Route 3 to Colebrook. “I am very honored and humbled to offer Northern Pass opponents an opportunity to organize and march and dramatize the statewide impact of the high voltage transmission line,: Andy notes. “All are welcome to join us Sunday morning if they want to show their opposition to Northern Pass. My presidential campaign is the only one to stand out openly and vigorously against Northern Pass; compare all one.

“The overall plan for the future is to resume marching where we stopped on the prior day. After Sunday we will resume marching in two weeks where we leave off Sunday July 31st. We will continue the battle against Northern Pass as long as it takes to block this horrible project. No one will stop us from moving forward. Not Northern Pass and its email attacks, not the lobbyists and special interests in Concord and Manchester (including a potential Republican gubernatorial candidate’s law firm). No one.

“This time the people can win. If they walk the walk and not just talk the talk I will stand behind them and march in front of them. I can create an opportunity; I can’t get people off their backsides and out on the streets. That’s up to them if they feel as strongly as I do abut the pernicious impact of Northern Pass on New Hampshire’s economy and environment.”

Presidential candidate Andy Martin joins search for missing NH child Celina Cass

Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin announced last Saturday, July 23rd, that he would hold a rally in New Hampshire’s North Woods July 29th and start marching on July 30th against the proposed Northern Pass high voltage transmission plan. Martin has arrived in Colebrook, New Hampshire, only to find himself in the middle of the search for missing New Hampshire schoolgirl Celina Cass. Martin’s rally and march will proceed, but Martin will be searching along his march route for any possible evidence that could aid law enforcement in the search for Celina.

Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin previously invited the entire population of New Hampshire’s North Country to join him Friday evening in rallying against Northern Pass and marching Saturday and Sunday mornings against Northern Pass

Martin’s rally Friday night will observe a moment of silence for Celina Cass as well as another young lady who is ill

Martin’s march Saturday and Sunday will proceed as previously scheduled. But Martin and any marchers will also be carefully scouring their march route for any possible evidence that could aid law enforcement in the search for Celina Cass.

“I hope this nightmare ends before then,” Martin says. “But if not, we are going to do our best to help.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW HAMPSHIRE NEWS CONFERENCE

ATTENTION NATIONAL AND NEW HAMPSHIRE DAYBOOK/ASSIGNMENT EDITORS

(COLEBROOK, NH)(July 29, 2011) Independent Republican Presidential candidate Andy Martin announced Friday morning, July 29th, that his presidential campaign team would join the search for missing North Country schoolgirl Celina Cass.

“I am absolutely stunned,” Martin says. “Last Saturday we announced our Friday night July 29th rally and the start of our march on Saturday morning July 30th. No rational mind could have conceived that we would walk into the maelstrom of a missing child in the same area where we are meeting and marching. This is New Hampshire.

“I have complete confidence in the efforts of law enforcement. Nevertheless, I have an investigative background; so while the anti-Northern Pass marches will proceed as planned at 9:00 A.M. Saturday morning, and Sunday at 11;30, we will be scouring the roadway for any possible evidence or suspicious material. The same holds true for our Sunday march.

“My prayer, of course, is that Celina will be found before our rally Friday night, and before we march Saturday morning. We will observe a moment of silence for her at our rally Friday evening.

“This is every parent’s nightmare. Coming on the heels of the Casey Anthony trial the whole situation is disturbing. It is mind-numbing.

Martin’s campaign “fighting camp” is located at the Colebrook Country Club, off Route 26 in Colebrook.

Martin had previously announced that he would march from Pittsburg to Stewartstown on Saturday, and Stewartstown to Colebrook on Sunday as part of his statewide march against Northern Pass.

Candidate cell contact 917-664-9329

“Bulldog Live” Brian Tilton of WTPL-FM will be the master of ceremonies Friday evening at Martin’s rally. Local citizens who are Northern Pass opponents will be speaking. Andy Martin will deliver a major address (i) explaining the basis for his campaign against Northern Pass, (ii) supporting New Hampshire’s First Primary and (iii) ridiculing the Iowa caucuses as “anti-American.”

In a separate email, Thursday Martin released his new radio commercial which lacerates Northern Pass.

Although Andy himself is a partisan candidate, the events he is sponsoring Friday-Sunday are nonpartisan. All are welcome to participate regardless of political affiliation.

Martin will hold a news conference before the start of his rally at 6:00 P.M. Friday evening at the Colebrook Country Club.
