GOP Presidential Candidate and Contrarian Commentary columnist Andy Martin says that George W. Bush owes South Carolina and John McCain an apology for Bush’s 2000 dirty tricks

GOP presidential candidate and “Contrarian Commentary” columnist Andy Martin breaks his 16-year silence on George W. Bush’s dirty tricks campaign against Senator John McCain in the 2000 South Carolina primary. Andy was accidentally wired in to the dirty tricks operation and now explains why the Bush Family political operatives have been lying since 2000. Andy says that Monday (February 15th) former President George W. Bush should apologize to the people of South Carolina and John McCain for smearing McCain in the 2000 primary.

Andy also criticizes Jeb Bush for complaining about criticism of his “family” when Jeb drags family members into the campaign.

Finally, Andy says the entire Bush Administration lied about the bogus basis for invading Iraq in 2003. Jeb Bush is disqualified for the presidency because he keeps defending his brother’s criminal actions in South Carolina and Iraq. “It was not a ‘mistake’ that we invaded Iraq,” Andy says. “It was a criminal conspiracy at the highest levels of the Bush Administration to lie about the facts in 2002-2003. I was there; I knew the truth and saw the truth. The Republican Party has to accept the truth that ‘Bush lied, people died.’ Jeb Bush cannot be elected president as long as he continues to defend his brother’s criminality and incompetence in the White House. Donald Trump may be abrasive but he is telling the truth about Bush Family calumny.”

(Manchester, NH) (February 15, 2016)

Dear American:

This is my twelfth letter to the American people from the 2016 campaign trail. Today you are going to learn the truth about a footnote to history: the Bush Family’s campaign of character assassination against John McCain in the 2000 South Carolina primary. I know the truth because I was there.

I have buttoned my lips for sixteen years because I could not disclose the truth in 2000; since then, the time has not been right for disclosure.

But Jeb Bush's continuing defense of his brother George w. Bush Saturday night (February 13th) in the 2016 South Carolina primary mandates that I break my silence and expose Bush Family fraud and criminality.

1. The truth about George W. Bush’ smears of John McCain in 2000 in South Carolina

Sometimes the truth and the facts are surprising; sometimes they are even more bizarre than they seem. My connection to the Bush Family’s lies in South Carolina in the 2000 primary are amazing.

Starting in December, 1999 I began broadcasting an ad over WMUR-TV accusing then-governor George W. Bush of wanting to start a war with Iraq. The ad generated a lot of controversy and helped defeat George Bush in the 2000 New Hampshire primary. So, obviously, I was not a supporter of George W. Bush. Ironically, I was also not a supporter of John McCain. McCain benefited from my disclosures.

Likewise these remarks will benefit and defend Donald Trump’s accusations. But I am not a supporter of Trump either. And while I am certain Trump was an opponent of the 2003 invasion after the invasion, I am not aware of any published comments in which Trump actually opposed the invasion of Iraq before it took place. On the contrary, starting in 2002 the Bush Administration created a climate of intimidation and retaliation against anyone who exposed the insanity of the upcoming (2003) invasion. That is why so many Democrats were afraid to stand up and voice their own doubts.

Here is where the 2000 story and the truth take a strange turn.

I was consulting for a client that had retained a group of individuals in Washington, DC. Entirely unrelated to our common efforts on behalf of a client, those individuals were antagonistic to McCain and offered their assistance and support as veterans to the George W. Bush’s presidential campaign.

I knew when Bush’s “veterans” took off to South Carolina to smear John McCain. And when McCain complained of the smear, Bush and Karl Rove pleaded ignorance.

Rove had completely orchestrated and directed the veterans who were used to smear McCain. The dirty tricksters were given pride-of-place at a Bush South Carolina rally. They were a featured photo-op. I watched the whole smear operation unfold from the inside. Ultimately, the Bush/Rove smear on McCain backfired, but not until after McCain had lost the South Carolina primary and with it any prospect of the nomination.

And there is yet another twist to the tale. The veterans who attacked McCain became so toxic that when Bush was ultimately elected after their help in South Carolina, Rove ignored them; they never received the political plums they had expected for their infamous behavior. Bush and Rove stiffed Bush’s own saboteurs.

So, today, when George W. Bush returns to South Carolina to support his brother Jeb, George should start by issuing apologies to John McCain and to the people of South Carolina. The people of South Carolina love a tough campaign, even a bare-knuckled one. But there is no evidence that South Carolinians accept lies, distortions and dirty tricks of the type used by Bush to smear military heroes such as John McCain.

Neither Bush nor Rove have ever apologized for orchestrating the South Carolina smears in 2000. They pretend they know nothing about their own dirty tricksters. The lies continue sixteen years later. I knew the truth sixteen years ago, and now you do too. Bush and Rove owe the people of South Carolina and John McCain an apology and admission that the Bush campaign orchestrated the smears against McCain.

2. Jeb Bush’s hollow complaints about “attacks on his family”

Americans in general agree that family members should not be dragged into a political campaign. But what happens when someone such as Bush brings his family members into a campaign to bolster his sagging efforts and his relatives start making stupid remarks? Bush’s “mommy” says he is a nice son. Is that a basis to elect him president? Or is Jeb trying to trade on his family connections for political gain? That is a proper target of criticism. If Bush doesn’t want his family members to be criticized by Donald Trump he should ask them to stay at home. Jeb should run on his own merits and not his mother’s apron strings.

3. The truth about George W. Bush administration lies and criminality prior to invading Iraq

The Republican Party has never been able to accept the fact that Dick Cheney and George Bush and their henchmen corrupted the U. S. Government to create a false pretext for the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Not until Donald Trump started attacking Jeb Bush in 2015 was the question of George W. Bush’s corruption and incompetence involving Iraq opened to a new round of Republican self-examination.

Amazingly, many Republicans continue to deny reality, to accuse the “Democrats” of “partisanship” for exposing George W. Bush’s outrageous invasion of Iraq, and to ignore the blatant misconduct of Bush and Cheney. While the “Bush lied, people died” meme is used primarily by Democrats, the accusation is factually 100% correct.

I have a background as a Middle East expert. I first went to the area in 1970. I even lived in Iraq in 2003 after the ill-fated invasion. I knew in 2002 and 2003 there were no weapons of mass destruction. Why didn’t the president? Why did Bernie Sanders know the invasion was crazy, and Hillary Clinton didn’t? The facts were obvious; there was no secret font of information.

And yet Jeb Bush continues to defend his brother’s invasion of Iraq and claims GW “kept us safe.” How much safer would we be today if thousands of Americans lost in Iraq were still alive, if tens of thousands of maimed Americans had not been maimed and if trillions of dollars of debt had never been incurred?

Jeb and George W. Bush think history will view GW more favorably than current commentators. They are delusional. History will be even harsher, as the chaos which GW Bush set in motion continues to destabilize the world.

Is Bush more popular since leaving office? Well, yes. He has had the decency to stay out of the limelight. I know from insiders that George W. Bush is a “nice guy.” I bear him no personal ill will. But he was dumb and incompetent and his administration will live in infamy.

George W. Bush did not “cause” 9/11. But he was warned of the threat and chose to ignore it. Is negligence culpability? You be the judge. Trump inartfully states the 9/11 case against Bush, but on substance Trump is correct. To ignore warnings is to invite disaster.

I use the term “Bush Administration criminality” with a proper basis to do so. Bush officials compromised the security of a CIA official, endangering her and her family as well as her contacts, in retaliation for her husband’s denying the existence of an Iraqi uranium-buying operation. That exposure was a crime.

Colin Powell was given ludicrously false intelligence to present to the UN. That was a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001.

Although no one will ever be prosecuted, all of the Bush Administration’s falsehoods and fabrications constituted criminal actions. The truth hurts. Even fourteen years later Republicans cannot accept that Bush-Cheney devastated the United States with thousands of unnecessary deaths, tens of thousands of serious casualties and trillions of dollars in unnecessary debt, all of which were totally unnecessary.

But the “past was past” until the emergence of Donald Trump.

“Conservatives” are now attacking Trump for telling the truth about the folly of the Iraq invasion. Here is the truth again: “Bush lied, people died.” Do Republicans expect to win the White House in 2016 by once again insulting the intelligence of the American people? Trump may not be the ideal candidate (full disclosure: I am) but Trump knows that lying to ourselves as conservatives and Republicans about the calamities of the Bush Family will not help elect a Republican president in 2016.

Did George W. Bush fail as president because he was stupid or because he was incompetent? Was he a willing or unwitting dupe of Cheney? To quote that great philosopher of chaos, “What difference does it make?” Bush lied, people died.

The ill-advised withdrawal scheme that Barack Obama implemented in Iraq had originally been negotiated by the Bush Administration. So while Obama added his own layer of arrogance and incompetence, it was Bush’s initial failures and his incompetent withdrawal plan that ultimately doomed our efforts in Iraq. Bush’s withdrawal agreement gave Obama the option to cut and run in Iraq, and Obama took it.

4. Closing thoughts

From the time I first visited Jeb Bush’s grandfather’s U. S. Senate office in 1958 as a little boy, I have been aware of the Bush Family and its machinations. I will have more dirt to dish in the days before the South Carolina primary on February 20th. And all of my revelations will be true.

Bottom line: Jeb Bush and his family betrayed the trust of the American people; Jeb is unfit to serve as a presidential candidate of the Republican Party let alone be elected to the office of president.

Sincerely yours,

Andy

Republican Presidential candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin writes that long after John McCain and Barack Obama are forgotten or marginalized, Sarah Palin will be deemed the real “winner” of the 2008 presidential election

Andy says Palin’s appearance on NBC’s Today Show is the ultimate vindication and validation of her decision to become a media star

Andy says Palin could make a political comeback in 2016 if she moves “backwards” and returns to the sincerity of her political roots

Andy says Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt have covered up their own incompetence by sliming Sarah Palin

(NEW YORK) (April 3, 2012) Now it can be told: Sarah Palin was the real “winner” of the 2008 presidential election.

There is a passionate Republican in Illinois who produces an indispensable daily roundup of Republican Party and national political news, Dave Diersen. Dave likes to insert occasional “flashbacks” in his daily jeremiads. Today let me begin with a Diersen-style “flashback.”

In June 2008 my book on Barack Obama “wrapped” and went to the printer. As I surveyed the upcoming presidential campaign between Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain I saw McCain as a very weak candidate. I’m not sure if I wrote about my views explicitly. But in thinking about the campaign in June and July I felt McCain needed a “game changer:” McCain needed a woman as his vice presidential candidate.

In all honesty, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska was not on my radar screen in July, 2008. I felt McCain could get more “bang for the buck” with an established national leader such as perhaps Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison or Susan Collins. McCain’s inner circle saw what I saw and agreed with me on what was needed: a dramatic gesture for McCain’s vice presidential choice. They went for Palin.

Palin electrified the Republican Party. Then McCain, Schmidt and Wallace started to undermine their own accomplishment. Palin came under criticism for her lack of national experience and media fluency. Hello? How could Palin's resume have been a surprise?

Backbiting between Palin and the McCain leadership team which had selected her became public. Even in 2012 we are still seeing McCain’s staffers attacking Palin. So who’s right and who’s wrong and what does 2012 tell us about 2008? And maybe even 2016?

In one of my columns about McCain’s lack of debating smarts I demanded that McCain “obey the laws of television.” Unlike the laws of government and nature, the laws of television are sometimes contradictory and counterintuitive. But they are still ironclad laws. You cannot be an effective communicator on TV without obeying the laws of television.

Television demands a cheery disposition. Always. Which is why Katie Couric, a 50 year-old woman, is still described as “perky.” TV appearances must be positive even when stressing the negative. Difficult as it may be to act that way. McCain lived in his hopelessly backward and outdated cocoon. He had no idea how to campaign in 2008. In his own way McCain was even less qualified and less experienced for the national stage than Palin. He was even worse that candidate Senator Bob Dole in 1996. The media world had changed drastically from 1996 to 2008. McCain had not.

Sarah Palin had campaign “street smarts.” At a time in the 2008 presidential race when I was leading the Republican Party's fight against Obama (McCain’s people were not) and I was virtually alone in attacking and exposing Obama as a leftist fraud, Palin also instinctively recognized that in order to win the McCain-Palin team had to delaminate Obama’s veneer.

McCain refused to attack Obama and insisted on pursuing a losing strategy. Like an old sea captain who is insistent on going down with his ship, McCain insisted on going down with his ship, the ship he himself had torpedoed. None of McCain’s “senior” advisers, one of whom has now popped up on liberal cable channel MSNBC, resigned in protest because McCain was committed to a losing strategy. Campaign munchkins never take a risk on undermining their own resumes; but their silence eventually becomes a stab in the back of their own captain.

Instead of shaking up "Grandpa McCain" as I called him, McCain’s acolytes and enablers Schmidt and Wallace attacked the only person who had a strategy for victory: Sarah Palin.

“Sister Sarah” as I like to call her (for the sister I never had) was a firebrand. But Palin needed to be coached in how to comply with “the laws of television.” Instead, the Republican jokers bought her a new designer wardrobe. Instead of being let out in the open to stumble and scrape a knee, Palin was locked away in a closet and made to look timid and stupid. McCain was defeating his own brilliant choice in selecting Palin.

In 2012 some of McCain’s losers (Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace, again) are still attacking Palin instead of admitting they were the ones who goofed. Wallace’s and Schmidt’s hypocrisy at their own incompetence and petulance are pathetic.

There is no doubt that Palin needed coaching to stand on the national stage and to stand up to the national media. Instead of coaching her, Wallace and Schmidt denigrated Palin. They looked down on her. They had contempt for the Alaska “bumpkin.”

But Plain was proven right and Wallace and Schmidt were proven wrong by McCain’s disastrous strategy. Unless McCain-Palin attacked Obama and pierced his vulnerable persona the Republican ticket would lose. McCain refused to attack and he lost.

Today in 2012 Schmidt and Wallace are carping from the sidelines while Palin has expanded her national influence.

Palin was then criticized when she left the Alaska governorship to take a multi-million dollar deal with Fox News.

Let’s be honest: Palin took the Fox deal for the money. Who can blame her? McCain had given Palin a taste of the big city and bright lights and she wanted to stay in the public eye. Being Alaska governor was a secondary position. Resigning was a crass decision but an understandably human and self-interested choice.

Palin’s claim she resigned because of “frivolous freedom of information demands” and “unfounded ethics accusations” was nonsense. She would have done better if she had just stated openly and honestly, “I could not turn down the money.” People would have understood.

I’m no fan of Palin’s media style on Fox News today. She is still not being coached properly and still not as polished as she could be. She still needs to develop discipline and gravitas. As self-appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on the “Laws of Television” I could probably still up her game if Palin was in my hands. But she’s not, and we must accept Palin as she is, not as she could be.

Palin is doing all right. Her instincts are usually pretty good. Or close to all right. In Barack Obama’s timeless analysis of Hillary Clinton, Palin is “likeable enough.”

Reality TV and much of the rubbish that passes for entertainment on commercial television has coarsened the audience. Therefore, we don’t have the same standards we once did where national political leaders are involved.

Palin's 2011 bus tour and other extravaganzas could have been choreographed to produce a more sincere result. But in the long run mistakes don’t count in the overall summing up of celebrity and television prominence.

Ultimately it took a trigger from Katie Couric to validate and vindicate Plain’s strategy of "going celebrity.” (Couric was at CBS when she torpedoed a helpless Palin who had not been prepared by Wallace and Schmidt in 2008.)

NBC faced a challenge this week. Couric is “guest hosting” on ABC, the network that now pays Couric and hopes to syndicate her new talk show in the fall. The best powerhouse weapon NBC could find to counter Couric? NBC chose Sarah Palin.

A reader might say that Palin is merely a celebrity and no longer a political leader. But that’s not the case. Under the “laws of television,” celebrity and political leadership can be merged. Unless Palin makes a personal false step, such as a sex scandal or similar personal failing, she can make occasional missteps in judgment and still remain at the top of the media/celebrity pyramid until 2016.

The bottom line: McCain will be remembered as a hapless old man who pursued and won a nomination in 2008 that he couldn't use to good effect.

Barack Obama was and is a legitimate “historic figure.” But Obama could end up in the trash bin of history if he loses in November. The liberal “lamestream media” will send Obama’s accomplishments into oblivion and start to resurrect Hillary Clinton. That’s what media do. There is always a new edition to put out, a new show to produce, a new story line to prepare and present.

Palin? She’s raking in millions from Fox News to do what she does best. The “lamestream media” still make fun of her. Palin said recently that among her many personal political accomplishments was being a “gas regulator” in Alaska. And, of course, some media are making fun of that claim. But regulating the oil and gas industry was a real accomplishment in Alaska, and it remains a legitimate credential in an energy-starved and energy-focused world. The “lamestreamers” still don’t understand the lady.

Palin won the 2008 election. With the passage of time and the passing of McCain and Obama from national prominence (has McCain no shame; why won't he just go away?), Palin will be the one whose image endures and whose overall “mission accomplished” exceeded McCain’s and Obama’s unfulfilled expectations.

Sister Sarah, well done.

Why Andy Martin should be the Republican Party’s presidential candidate

Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin comments on the incompetence and corruption of other Republican presidential candidates (“designated losers” such as Rick Perry, Herman Cain and Ron Paul) and points out the FBI identified Andy as a conservative leader in 1968. Andy predicted the Occupy Wall Street fiasco unfolding today.

Dear Reader (and potential

Primary voter):

I am often asked “Why are you running for president?” and “What qualifies you to be the Republican candidate vis a vis your primary opponents?” Recently both my opposing Republican primary candidates and the New York Police Department (“NYPD”) have answered your questions.

1. The Republican presidential primary circus

Over the past few days Herman Cain and Rick Perry have shown they know nothing about foreign policy and can’t even organize a short grocery list of three items. Yet the liberal media lavish coverage on these clowns? Why? Because the mainstream media are using the so-called “debates” to destroy the credibility of the Republican Party.

After watching Herman Cain fumble a very simple question on Libya, I am starting to wonder if the man can even make a decent pizza. You’ve probably seen the Cain/Libya tape. How can any rational Republican support Cain? (Cain's response? He “didn't get enough sleep the night before.")

Rick Perry has also had a series of stumbles, culminating in a moment that will forever live in debate infamy. We will have another embarrassing Perry situation to analyze and report on later today. “Competence” and Perry do not go together.

Using the “miracle of TV debates,” the liberal media have promoted this troop of designated losers to bring into your living room the manufactured evidence that Republicans are clowns and incompetents. Rick Santorum? Despite months of national publicity he is a blip. John Huntsman? Ditto. National publicity has not helped him either. Two nothingbergers.

Newton Gingrich is one of the truly audacious thieves in politics today. Newt steals small amounts of money from lots of “little people” and uses his booty to support his lavish lifestyle with “Callista.” “Caligula” is more like it. If Newton Gingrich sounds intelligent to primary voters they should be questioning themselves. Gingrich spends millions of dollars of his supporters' money on private jets, running a virtual airline for himself. And he’s going to cut spending? Gingrich can’t cut spending for himself. Tiffany & Company, anyone?

I see an America suffering at home and abroad because voters made a grave mistake in 2008. We need to correct that mistake and remove Barack Obama from the White House. But it won’t be easy. I fought Obama in 2008, and no one was by my side. Republicans (except for Sarah Palin) were afraid to tackle Obama's unfitness for office. They tap danced around the questions in Obama’s past. John McCain effectively surrendered to Obama. McCain’s “campaign strategist,” Steve Schmidt, is now an “adviser” to the liberal cable network MSNBC. Schmidt is anther cash-and-carry conservative.

Well, guess what? It’s happening again. By offering clowns as candidates, the liberal media are using the debates to reelect Obama in 2012. It's a bold and brilliant liberal strategy and Republicans are falling for it. Don’t say you were not warned.

I am probably the only candidate who actually shops at Wal-Mart. I don’t spend millions of dollars on private jets. On Libya, I actually supported the policy that saved American lives and succeeded in removing Ghadaffi. Once again, you saw my foreign policy expertise working in real time, and winning in real time.

2. The “Occupy Wall Street” circus

The latest fiasco at “Occupy Wall Street” (“OWS”) today should confirm my competence and qualifications to be your president.

OWS is one of those contentious issues where everyone has a right to an opinion, and everyone is right. You can “love ‘em” or “hate ‘em” and you’re not wrong. The OWS protesters are mostly liberal loonies, but they are exposing the fault lines in our society. They are a canary-in-the-mine-shaft that predicts there are serious troubles ahead if our economy continues to be run for the benefit of “the few” as opposed to serving the needs of “the many.”

But having an opinion on OWS is different than leading, and leading requires both enforcing the law and obeying the law.

Last month I spent a night at OWS. I saw that conditions there were vastly different than those reported by Fox News. I was there again a couple of days ago, on Sunday the 12th. No one offered me sex, and no one offered me narcotics. There was free food and in a truly bourgeois sideline there were conga lines of medical students offering free flu shots.

After “my night at OWS” I correctly analyzed the situation. Once again you can go back and read my blog posting predicting the latest fiasco:

I told the city and Brookfield Properties to go to court. I told the City “If you think you’re right, and everyone has a right to their opinion concerning OWS, go to court, get a court order and allow law enforcement to enforce a court order.” That is how civilized society must operate. Telling police to “seize them” in the middle of the night is Cecil B. DeMille Hollywood material.

So what happened. The OWS protesters went to court today and got a court order against the city! You can read the court order at:

A president will constantly be called on to deal with conflicting and complex issues. A president needs to create a clear path, and follow a clear path, but first he or she must see a clear path.

I have been in the public arena for 45 years. I have a record of independence, integrity and conservatism (www.AndyMartin.com) with just a handful of personal mistakes in almost half a century. I have exhibited sound judgment over decades, not just a few minutes in a debate. At the beginning of the Iraq War I was asked to help a U. S. Marine family. I went to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and won a landmark victory for everyone in uniform.

Worried about the “cred” of some of the other presidential candidates. Flip-floppers, maybe? Forty-three years ago an FBI agent was asked to evaluate me. The FBI agent replied that I was a “conservative leader” at the University of Illinois. (You can get the record from the FBI if you doubt me.) The FBI saw me as a conservative leader in 1968. I am still a conservative leader.

No other candidate can make that claim to such longevity.

And, unlike Ron Paul, I am a Republican, committed to the Republican Party. Paul still can’t make up his mind whether he will support the eventual winner, or whether he will, or will not, run as an independent in 2012. Paul is not a Republican; he’s a one-man “Paul Party.”

As president I would use sound judgment to follow the law and restore American greatness through competence, not clowning. I wish I could say the same for the other presidential candidates. I can’t.

That’s why I am the best, but not the best known, candidate to represent the Republican Party in 2012. Think about it. And start thinking “outside the box” before the liberal media use the “TV box” to box in the Republican Party and reelect Obama.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ANNOUNCEMENT OF PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY NEWS CONFERENCE

ATTENTION HAWAI’I/NATIONAL DAYBOOK/ASSIGNMENT EDITORS

Andy Martin says Senator John McCain’s opposition to Hawaii’s brown tree snake program is “just plain stupid”

Martin says Republicans should maintain their historical role as protectors of the environment

Martin says the entire United States from Main to Hawai’i faces risks from invasive species; what don't the Republicans understand?

(HONOLULU, HI)(October 4, 2011) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a news conference today, October 4, 2011 at the Hawai’i State Capitol in downtown Honolulu to announce that as president he would continue and possibly even expand federal funding for Hawaii’s brown tree snake eradication program.

“I am very disappointed that Senator John McCain, who I alternatively respect and ridicule from time to time, thinks the brown tree snake inspection program in Hawai’i is government waste. He’s wrong, totally wrong.

“What do Senator McCain and the other anti-environmental dopes not understand? Has the anti-environmental protection mantra in the Republican Party become so strong that people are willing to endanger the American people? I hope not.

“Invasive species are a threat from coast-to-coast. In Illinois, we are terrified of the risks posed by the so-called ‘flying catfish’ that could destroy the Great Lakes ecosystem. In Florida, pythons are multiplying and pose a risk to the Everglades. In California they face threats from other invasive species. How can Republicans ignore this threat? Or is it all right to ‘stop the catfish’ in Illinois but ignore the brown tree snakes that endanger Hawai’i?

“While McCain is wrong on this issue, Hawai’i legislators have also been less than effective. Instead of defending against ‘pork’ accusations and making the nationwide case for the eradication of invasive species, Hawai’i members of congress have been relatively flaccid and ineffective.

“I am an environmental protectionist in the finest traditions of the Republican Party. Even if my primary opponents do not, I realize we face a national threat from the improper and unwise importation of invasive species. I would ban the importation of just about every non-native species except for carefully controlled scientific purposes. The threat to Hawai’i is no different than the threat to the Everglades or the threat to the Great Lakes. I will work to protect Hawaii’s environment just as hard as I will work to protect the mainland’s environmental challenges. That’s why I am the most balanced and best qualified presidential candidate,” Martin says.

“Perhaps we need to combine and restructure our invasive species programs so they are viewed at the national level and not in isolation state-by-state. Hawai’i is not alone. Florida is not alone. The Great Lakes are not alone.”

Martin notes he is the only presidential candidate who is standing up for environmental protection. He believes concern for the environment is essential; we should root out abuses and excesses of the EPA when they occur, but we should vigorously respond to the risks of invasive species. Fighting species risks is not “pork” or a boondoggle or anything similar. In Andy’s opinion invasive species are a major risk to our national environment.

In New Hampshire Andy is a leading opponent of the Northern Pass high voltage transmission line proposal that would undermine the Granite State’s environment.
