Republican Party presidential candidate and foreign policy author/expert
Andy Martin will hold a New York City news conference today, Saturday, October
17, to “set the record straight” on whether former President George W. Bush
“kept us safe” after 9/11, as his brother Jeb repeatedly, and falsely claims.
“Trump is right,” Andy says. “9/11 happened in part because of the complacency
of GW Bush’s administration. The CIA warned
of an attack and no one paid any attention. Bin Laden attacked while America
was asleep. And, after 9/11 GW Bush’s horrible mistakes endangered America
and promoted the rise of terrorism. GW didn’t intend to do evil things; but
because GW Bush was incompetent he was our ‘worst president’ until Obama came
along. Now Bush is our second-worst. To be sure, President Barack Obama
exacerbated the mess GWB left behind. But the seeds of our current disaster
were planted by the Bush family. It is time for Republicans to have an honest
discussion, not debate, because there is no ‘debating’ that GW Bush seriously
endangered our national and economic security.”

(New York) (October 17, 2015) Republican presidential
candidate and foreign policy author/expert Andy Martin will hold a New
York news conference today, Saturday, October 17th to
confirm what Donald Trump implied on Friday, that President George W. Bush
(“GWB”) endangered U. S.
security both before and after 9/11. Friday Jeb Bush and Donald Trump renewed a
fight over GW Bush’s legacy (see links below).
“After 9/11 we could not have an honest discussion about
what happened on 9/11,” Andy says. “Americans were at war. We trusted GWB to ‘do
the right thing.’ He did not. GWB endangered our national security both before
and after 9/11. One of the reasons Jeb Bush is unfit to even be nominated for
president, let alone serve in the White House, is because he keeps defending
the disastrous record of his brother.
“Donald Trump is a Johnny-Come-Lately to the ‘war of words’
between the Bush Brothers and me. In December, 1999 I began airing a commercial
on WMUR-TV in New Hampshire
accusing then-Governor GWB of ‘wanting to start a war with Iraq.’
My analysis of GWB’s flawed character was years ahead of anyone else’s. I knew
GWB had a screw loose for Iraq.
After my TV commercial began exposing his brother as a potential foreign policy
nincompoop Jeb Bush counterattacked. But many believe my TV ad provided the
slim margin by which GWB lost the 2000 New Hampshire
primary.
“Jeb and I have been at odds for over twenty years, since I
first exposed his profiteering in the early 1990’s. The Bush family may have
fooled Americans. But they never fooled me.
“So what are the facts?
“First, GWB was warned on taking office in 2001 that Al
Qaeda was a serious threat. He did nothing.
“Second, in August, 2001 Bush was warned Al Qaeda was
planning to strike the United States.
GWB went on vacation.
“Third, to his credit, Bush acted responsibly in the
immediate aftermath of 9/11. Then he squandered his good will by making
decisions that are still, in 2015, endangering our national security.
“Fourth, Bush ‘starved’ the mission to find and kill Osama
Bin Laden. Bush incompetently started diverting military resources to a buildup
for an invasion of Iraq.
Bush allowed VP Dick Cheney to start lying, which Cheney still does to this
date, falsely claiming Iraq
had something to do with 9/11. Iraq
had nothing to do with 9/11. In fact, Bin Laden was a sworn enemy of the Iraqi regime.
“Fifth, Bush provided false ‘intelligence’ to justify his invasion
of Iraq. I knew
there were no ‘weapons of mass destruction’ in Iraq.
Why didn’t Hillary Clinton? Cheney and Bush intimidated the congress into
endorsing a disastrous military operation.
“Sixth, a few days after Saddam Hussein was deposed in
April, 2003 I landed in Baghdad. I
saw our foreign policy disaster up close. As early as mid-2003 I was warning
about the long-term dangers of Bush’s policy. Once again, Bush didn’t fool me,
even though he fooled most Americans.
“Seventh, when Saddam Hussein was captured, Bush’s puppet in
Iraq, Paul
Bremer, suggested the war in Iraq
was over. I correctly reported the resistance was just beginning. Again Bush
was wrong and I was right.
“Eighth, in 2006-2007, despite my opposition to the
invasion, I supported the buildup that became the ‘surge.’ There was no other option.
Bush had botched our policy so badly he had to build up before he could stand
down.
“Ninth, Bush, not Obama, was the one who negotiated our disastrous
withdrawal policy. Bush was the one who allowed the Shiite strongman, Al Maliki,
to take and stay in power. In 2009, Bush left behind a ticking time bomb for
President Barack Obama. Obama thought he was being a smarty pants when he
allowed the ‘bomb’ to explode. But Obama’s initial mistakes still resonate
today, not only in Iraq
but also in Afghanistan.
“Tenth, Jeb Bush has the audacity and contempt for the truth
to keep saying that his brother ‘kept us safe’ while in office. Kept us safe?
Thousands of Americans died to implement the flawed Bush invasion and
occupation of Iraq.
Tens of thousands were seriously wounded. Has Jeb never seen the ‘Wounded
warrior’ ads on TV? Or doesn’t he care?
“GW Bush endangered not only our national security but also
our economic security. The overall, long-term costs of his disastrous invasion
of Iraq will
come to ten trillion (trillion)
dollars when the final bills are settled some time in the next century. By
taking his eye off Afghanistan
in 2001, Bush prolonged Osama Bin Laden’s ‘reign’ (to use Trump’s word) in Afghanistan
and Pakistan,
and prolonged what should have been an immediate death strike at Bin Laden
after 9/11.
“Eleventh, to be sure, ‘wise guy’ Obama thought he had
swallowed a canary when he withdrew from Iraq
under the ‘Bush plan.’ Obama is still paying for his own hubris. Just this week,
former Secretary of Defense Gates confirmed that anti-military members of
Obama’s administration were egging Obama on to ignore military warnings and to
abandon Iraq.
Today, more Americans are dying because of the Bush/Obama policy of
incompetence and arrogance in the Middle East.
“Twelfth, Bush’s bungling led inexorably to the breakdown in
Iraq and Syria.
No, ISIS did not come into being on Bush’s watch. But
the eventual arrival of ISIS was the natural progression
of Bush’s withdrawal timetable in Iraq.
“In conclusion, GW Bush was a foreign policy disaster. He
did not ‘keep us safe.’ Backwardly, almost everything he did contributed to the
long-term dangers we face today. The fact that we did not have more 9/11’s at
home is not something to brag about; GW Bush just ‘exported’ our new 9/11’s to Iraq
and Afghanistan.
“Jeb Bush continues to spread the lie that Saddam Hussein
was involved in 9/11, and that we are ‘better off’ without him. Better off? Ten
trillion dollars better off? Hussein
was an evil dictator. But he was a bulwark against Iranian expansion. When
Saddam fell, Iran
began to take control of Iraq.
“Jeb Bush should have the common decency to stop running for
president and stop lying about his incompetent family that started two
unnecessary wars, left trillions
of dollars in debt behind, and has damaged American security into the
foreseeable future. Barack Obama has only carried out GW Bush’s disastrous
policies. Obama may be a jerk in his own right. But GW Bush is the one that
created the mess in the first place.
“I bear GW Bush no personal animus. He is a decent person as
a person. But he was totally unqualified to be president, as I correctly
predicted in 1999; GW has left behind a bitter legacy. The utter and complete
arrogance of the Bush family, in trying to promote Jeb as he latest example of
a blood line with bad blood, is merely a reflection of the contempt which the
Bush Family and its life-long Wall Street kingmakers have for the American
people.
“Jeb should immediately withdraw as a candidate and he
should promise to stop lying about his father’s and brother’s failures. GW Bush
did not ‘keep us safe.’ Rather, GW Bush has left behind a legacy that continues
to endanger every American and will do so for generations.
“I know Republicans hate to face the facts, and I know they
love to attack truth-tellers like me. (They started attacking me in 1999 when
my TV ad predicted GW Bush was incompetent to become president.) But Bush
family failures will haunt the GOP and lock us out of the White house until
someone such as Trump is willing and able to tell the truth about the failures
of the toxic Bush Family dynasty.
“I have never lied about Bush family corruption and
incompetence, which I began documenting in 1993. I have only told the truth, to
Republicans and to the American people. I was 100% correct in 1999 when I
exposed GW Bush as unfit to lead,” Andy charges. “It is about time for
Republicans to tell Americans the truth, admit GW Bush made horrible mistakes
and promise never to sin again in the same way that GW Bush courted disaster,
and then created an ongoing disaster with his arrogant and incompetent
policies.”
