ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW YORK PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN NEWS CONFERENCE

ATTENTION NATIONAL AND NEW YORK DAYBOOK/ASSIGNMENT EDITORS

Andy Martin suggests the Republican National Committee adopt a “loyalty oath” for presidential candidates

Andy says Ron Paul is using the Republican Party to build Paul’s “cult” of supporters, who could fuel a third-party run for president by Paul in 2012

Andy says “I share the frustrations of Paul’s supporters, that the system is working to reward political bad guys such as Newton Gingrich, and not hardworking families; but we can’t allow a man who is confused such as Paul to offer delusional promises as solutions for the real problems we face as a nation”

(NEW YORK) (November 20, 2011) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a New York City news conference today, Sunday, November 20th to recommend that the Republican National Committee adopt a “loyalty oath” as the price of admission to future presidential primary debates. Martin accuses Representative Ron Paul of using the presidential debate process to undermine the eventual Republican presidential nominee by laying a foundation for a third-party campaign by Paul.

“The Communist leader Lenin once claimed ‘The capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them,’” Andy says. “You could say the Republican Party is giving Ron Paul the ‘rope to hang the Republican Party.’

“Paul has been equivocal about a third party run for president (see link blow). He has flatly refused to commit to supporting the Republican nominee for president in 2012. He has run before as a third-party candidate.

“The Paul campaign is not a traditional political campaign. It is a cult. It is a cult of personality built around a man who promises the impossible. I don't know whether Ron Paul is a confused old man who wants to return to his childhood in the 1930’s, or whether he is immersed in a ‘second childhood’ of eliminationist fantasies for the future. But Ron Paul offers a demented and delusional version of America to Republicans.

“Ron Paul wants to betray Israel and surrender to Iran. How’s that for a foreign policy?

“Ron Paul doesn’t want us to kill terrorists; he wants to coddle terrorists. Paul makes wild claims that American ‘journalists’ are going to be targeted for elimination because of the global war against terror. If Paul wasn’t running for president he would be placed in a straight-jacket as a senior citizen with signs of dementia.

“Ron Paul doesn’t want to reform America, he wants to repeal the last seventy-five years of history.

“Paul’s supporters are a ‘cult’ because they represent a growing segment of our society that is alienated and frustrated by the failures of our political process. Paul offers a tempting fantasy world where he promises to make everything perfect and pure. Kool-Aid, anyone?

“I have often said that I agree with Ron probably eighty percent (80%) of the time, eighty percent of the way on any individual issue. But when Paul goes off the deep end, he loses me.

“Paul has been in congress for decades. What does he have to show for his time there? Nothing.

“Right now many of Paul‘s supporters are not Republicans. Unless we approach the Paulites as real people, and not merely automatons of Ron Paul, they will be tempted to believe politics has failed them when in fact it is Ron Paul who is a failure.

“I do not believe Republicans should reject Paul’s supporters; on the contrary I believe we should embrace them.

“Like Paul, for example, I would like to see ‘less’ America abroad. But I do not want to shut down our world role and engage in isolationist fantasies. The world is a dangerous place even with American internationalism as a stabilizing force. If Paul succeeded, and he withdrew the United States from a leading role in the world, humanity would be more endangered, not less. We cannot run and hide from reality as Paul suggests we do.

Israel is an obvious place where Paul’s isolationism would increase world tensions and possibly trigger a war. Paul’s suggestion that we abandon our commitment to Israel and surrender to Iran is a prescription for disaster.

“If you believe in American exceptionalism, as I do and as most Republicans and Americans do, then you cannot believe in Ron Paul’s isolationism. It’s as simple as that. Isolationism and exceptionalism are mutually exclusive.

“I tried the first administrative case at the Federal Reserve Board. I know the Fed needs reform. But Paul wants to abolish the Fed and turn the role of monetary control over to congress. Is that rational?

“Paul is entitled to advocate kooky policies. But when Republican state parties ‘sponsor’ nationally televised debates in conjunction with the liberal media, these Republican state parties are providing a platform for Paul’s whacky beliefs.

“No one has a ‘right to debate’ on TV. The media have won all of those lawsuits. But before Republicans allow a candidate to debate they ought to insist on a simple ‘Loyalty Oath:’

1. Candidates should make a binding promise not to run as third-party candidates after the selection of a presidential nominee.

2. Candidates should make a binding promise either to publicly support the presidential nominee or remain silent.

“Many state parties—Florida is a notable example—require party officials to support the party. I am sure many other state Republican Parties have similar state-based loyalty requirements for party officials.

“But the Republican National Committee has not established any loyalty test as the price of admission to the presidential debate process.

“What is the Republican Party leadership doing? Party leaders are allowing Paul and the liberal media to combine and create the image of the Republican Party as a toxic combination of extremism and incompetence, all of which is intended by the media to reelect Barack Obama and to undermine the eventual Republican presidential nominee. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote to reelect Barack Obama. It’s as bad as that. And as direct as that.

I have previously warned that liberal media are orchestrating the defeat of the Republican Party in 2012 by running endless ‘debates’ that are merely an opportunity for crooks, clowns and kooks to pretend they are presidential caliber. Newton Gingrich is a Washington-style crook who has collected over $40 million in ‘honest graft’ thorough his Washington ‘connections.’ Herman Cain is a clown who is making a joke of the presidential selection process. Ron Paul is a kook who wants to abandon Israel and surrender to Iran. All three men are a threat to the Republican Party’s eventual presidential nominee.

“Paul’s promise that as president he would abandon Israel and surrender to Iran, and foster world ‘peace’ through appeasement is childlike in its stupidity. Whether Paul is harking back to his first childhood, or entering his second childhood, Paul is a confused old man who has no role pretending he is a serious choice for the Oval Office. He is a cult leader, nothing more.

“We should not and we cannot stop people from running for office; heaven knows my opponents are constantly trying to block my campaign activity. But the Republican Party and state Republican parties can properly insist that presidential candidates who are afforded the privilege of participating in the presidential debate process agree in writing not to undermine the party by running as independents or by openly opposing the party’s ultimate presidential nominee.

“My proposal is simple common sense. But then ‘common sense’ is currently in short supply in the presidential primary nominating process,” Andy charges.
