worst [big] bank.” Andy charges Wells Fargo is the most anti-consumer and

presidential candidate Andy Martin will hold a San
Francisco news conference today, November 25th
to call for the breakup of Wells Fargo Bank. Andy calls Wells Fargo Bank America ’s
“most anti-consumer big bank.”
“All of the top ten banks are to some extent anti-American
and anti-consumer,” Andy charges. “They take taxpayer money in bailouts, but
then they do everything they can to hurt their customers. But based on my
experience, Wells Fargo is America 's
worst big bank, easily the worst one of the top 5.
“The Republican Party is dead wrong on banking reform. Republicans
are always waging a war against bank regulation and consumer protection, but
ordinary citizens and small businesses need protection from the arrogance and
corruption of banks such as Wells Fargo. Republican candidates need to bite the
hand that feeds them, the Wall Street donor class.
“I got into a dispute with Wells Fargo years ago and today
we are in a federal court battle before an arrogant and corrupt federal judge.
For a small claims case involving beer money. The arrogance and consumer
antagonism of Wells Fargo has to be experienced to be believed. They also work
with a semi-secret company, ChexSystems to extort money from customers when
disputes arise between Wells Fargo and its clients.
“Unlike most national candidates I actually have banking industry
experience. For example, I tried the first bank holding company case at the
Federal Reserve Board, way back in 1973. So I know how and why the big banks
are corrupt, incompetent and dismissive of ordinary individuals. The banks
over-speculate in good times and they abuse and overcharge their customers in
bad times.
“During the mortgage foreclosure fiasco Wells Fargo was one
of the worst offenders. But Wells Fargo has a generalized anti-consumer
orientation, year-in and year-out.
“Why Republicans are against reasonable regulations (please
see link below) and want big banks to gamble with depositors’ money escapes me.
How can we expect to become a majority party if we are working against the
financial interests of a majority of Americans? The GOP is on the wrong side of
the banking regulation issue. Unfortunately, the reality is that the Republican
Party in Washington is financed by
dirty dollars from banking lobbyists. Campaign contributions from banks explain
why the Republican Party has sold itself to the big banking industry.
“We do not need to over-regulate small banks and those that
serve a local area without major branch networks or overseas operations or
trading desks. But the top 10 banks need to be watched closely and carefully.
The top 5 should be broken up, with a strict separation of ordinary banking
from financial speculation and risky trading. In every banking crisis, the ‘too
big to fail’ banks such as Wells Fargo get rewarded, and small business and consumer
customers get the shaft.
“We have a couple of web sites that are going up and will be
ready soon (please see links below). It is a very uphill battle, but I am
committed to separating the Washington GOP ‘lobbyist party’ from banking
contributions and special interest money. In fairness, the Democrats are just
as bad and just as greedy when it comes to campaign dollars from big banks.
“Ironically, banking reform is one issue where the GOP has
the potential to split away small business and consumer customers from the
Democratic Party. The Clintons are
owned lock, stock and barrel by big banks and Wall Street firms such as Goldman
Sachs. Bernie Sanders is right when he attacks Hillary Clinton and says the big
banks should be broken up.
“Instead of bowing down to the big banks, Republicans could
and should be poaching Democratic voters who are disgusted with the way that
moneyed interests run Washington
and have their evil tentacles deep in both parties.
“Wells Fargo is the worst of the worst. They are first on my
list to be broken up. Investment banking and Wall Street speculation on the one
hand, and consumer/business banking, on the other, can and should be made legally
separate once again.”
