Republican presidential candidate Andy Martin’s demand for action triggers FBI investigation

Despite the fact that civil rights leaders had protested and demonstrations had been staged, the federal government took no action in the murder of Treyvon Martin until Independent Republican Presidential Candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin held a Chicago news conference Monday, March 19th and demanded action. Martin, a law professor, summarized and outlined the grounds for a criminal prosecution (letter below). Andy is the only Republican presidential candidate with a lifelong record of support for civil rights.

(CHICAGO) (March 20, 2012) Independent Republican Presidential Candidate and conservative blogger Andy Martin told a Chicago news conference Monday, March 19th that he was demanding action in the cold-blooded murder of Trayvon Martin in Seminole County, Florida. Within hours the federal government agreed to take action (see Washington Post link below).

Andy will hold a Chicago news conference Tuesday to respond to the federal intervention.

Andy Martin has a long history of fighting political and judicial corruption in Florida, and of political activism across the State of Florida. Andy has probably filed more successful corruption charges against corrupt Florida judges than any other person in Florida history (see link below).

Within hours of Andy’s intervention in the Treyvon Martin case the deadlock in Washington was broken and the federal government announced Monday night that it was indeed going to investigate the Martin murder.

“What I found frustrating was that so many people were protesting, locally and with online petitions, and the federal government was not doing anything. President Obama and I have ‘circled’ each other for the past eight years, and Obama’s operatives closely monitor what I say and do. The minute I started creating waves, word apparently came down to take action to ‘head off Andy Martin.’ I don’t want to take a thing away from anyone that was demanding justice, but I am pleased and proud to have been able to ‘trigger’ an end to the federal roadblock,” Andy will state. “I will be monitoring the Treyvon Martin case for any signs of local judicial or prosecutorial corruption.” Andy’s letter to Seminole County State Attorney Norman Wolfinger follows:

Re: Trayvon Martin investigation and prosecution

Dear State Attorney Wolfinger:

I am writing you to urge you to take immediate action to prosecute the murder of Treyvon Martin.

I am writing in my capacity as the very strongest possible supporter of the Second Amendment and as a strong supporter of Florida’s concealed carry law. I had a concealed carry card myself when I was a full-time resident of Florida so I strongly support the program. I also am a strong supporter of Florida’s “stand your ground” statute which allows people to defend themselves when confronted with hostile action. As a resident of Florida, when I am in the state I expect to defend myself if attacked.

In the case of the murder of Trayvon Martin it is clear that the putative perpetrator of this terrible crime abused his firearm in an irrational manner. George Zimmerman was apparently emotionally and mentally unstable to the point where he went around his neighborhood literally “cruising” to create a disturbance. That is clearly not the policy, goal or intent of Neighborhood Watch (anther solid program).

After being warned by a 911 Operator to stand down and not pursue an engagement with an unknown individual, who turned out to be Mr. Martin (no relation), Mr. Zimmerman aggressively attacked and created a confrontation instead of waiting for law enforcement to arrive and assume control. There was absolutely no exigent basis for Mr. Zimmerman to be seeking to confront anyone, that is, there was no crime-in-progress.

The Second Amendment is not a “license to kill.” A Florida concealed carry permit does not authorize one to conduct aggressive operations against perceived threats, real or imagined. You cannot rely on Florida’s “stand your ground” statute to attack someone else on their ground and then claim you were acting in “self-defense” when they defend themselves.

When someone abuses the Second Amendment and unleashes deadly force out of a mentally unbalanced view of reality or a delusional view of that person’s role in relation to law enforcement, then legitimate gun ownership and legitimate self-defense and the underlying belief of our founders in a well-armed citizenry is diminished.

Law enforcement is suffering in Seminole County. There is a perception of racial bias in the Trayvon Martin case. People reasonably believe that there is one law for white citizens and one law for black citizens. If the circumstances were reversed, and a black citizen had killed a white citizen under the same circumstances, no one seriously believes the black citizen would be free.

Florida, of course, has a long history of racial violence. “Driving While Black” originated along the highways of the state and some of the tawdriest murders of the civil rights era occurred in Florida.

I hope we are long past the day when racial discrimination plays any role in the exercise of prosecutorial discretion.

That’s why I urge you to seek a prompt indictment of Mr. Zimmerman, and to take the case to trial as soon as possible.

You have been at the same task longer for the people of Seminole County. Let’s work together to see justice is done and the appearance of justice is transparent in the case of Treyvon Martin.

You have my best wishes and hopes that you will continue to administer justice fairly and unflinchingly for the citizens of Seminole County. Please keep me updated.
