(CHICAGO)(April 30, 2011) Corruption-fighting Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin holds a Chicago news conference today, Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 P.M. to demand that the Illinois Republican Party (“IRP”) “stop playing footsie” with organized crime figures who have infiltrated the IRP.

Martin says “the Brothers Pesek” continue to exercise influence over IRP affairs at the county level. Martin also charges that Cook County Republican Chairman Lee Roupas is a “disgrace to the Greek-American community” because Roupas tolerates Mafia penetration of the Cook County party. “Why is Lee Roupas allowing ‘crime syndicate committeemen’ to remain in the Cook County party?” Martin demands. “Craig Pesek resigned from the state committee but is still serving on the Cook County committee. Why?

“The obvious conclusion: Roupas is acting in part as a ‘front’ for organized crime figures.

“State IRP Chairman Pat Brady recently said that ‘appearances matter.’ I agree. Why is Skip Saviano a state committeeman? Saviano comes out of the roots of the old ‘West Side Block’ that packed up and moved to the suburbs. Saviano may not be a Mafia member directly but he is directly linked to organized crime figures in Chicago. What an ‘appearance.’

“People reading this must wonder ‘Is Andy watching too many late night Robert De Niro movies?’ No, I’m not. (see links below) Chicago really is a ‘mob’ city. The Mafia (called ‘The Outfit’ in Illinois) is a very real and very pernicious presence in both political parties. Republicans are just as culpable as Democrats, which is why the state is controlled by a bipartisan ‘combine’ run by both parties to perpetuate corruption.

“How could Craig Pesek’s brother Jeff be ‘reelected’ this week to the presidency of a local school board? Jeff Pesek testified under immunity in an organized crime trial (link below). There is a climate of fear which extends from the historic ‘Crime Syndicate Capital’ of Cicero to other suburban communities. This is how organized crime extends its tentacles into politics and ‘honest graft’ involving public agencies.

“Lee Roupas and Pat Brady should be prosecuted as accessories to ‘Outfit’ corruption if they keep turning a blind eye to these outrages” Martin says. “I may be running for president, but I have been fighting Crime Syndicate hoodlums for decades. The ‘families’ keep breeding thugs generation-after-generation. The Pesek Brothers are a classic example.

“We have similar problems nationally. Most presidential candidates are afraid to tackle political corruption and Mafia penetration of legitimate activity. I am not.”
