Dear Governor Perry:

Welcome to the Republican Party’s presidential primary campaign.

As New Hampshire’s Favorite Son presidential candidate I’d like to welcome you to the nation’s First Primary in New Hampshire.

I see where you are campaigning in Iowa. I’d like to suggest why you should leave Iowa, boycott the state, and refuse to return until Iowans start respecting our men and women in uniform by allowing them to participate in presidential precinct caucuses.

You and I are the only two presidential candidates who are veterans. You served on active duty. I did not serve on active duty; I enlisted in the USAFR and received an honorable discharge without ever being on active duty. We both wore Air Force blue. The day I took the oath of enlistment to uphold and defend the Constitution was the proudest day in my life. I have devoted my life to defending the U. S. Constitution, at home and abroad.

Which brings me back to Iowa.

Iowans do not allow men and women in uniform who are serving outside the state to participate in the presidential precinct caucuses. That is a disgrace to democracy. Imagine if you will when you were on active duty, serving somewhere around the world, and if you were an Iowa voter. You would not have been allowed to participate in the presidential precinct caucuses.

Iowans also discriminate against the aged and infirm, who can’t go out at night in the middle of the winter. They lock out “second shift” workers from the caucuses. And if you happen to be on an out-of-state business trip, or tending to retired relatives in another state, once again Iowans say “get lost.”

In New Hampshire, they count votes. An election is run by the state. Voting is honest and impartial. There is a ballot of candidates certified by the Secretary of State. Senior citizens get to vote absentee. People traveling get to vote absentee. Military personnel get to vote absentee. New Hampshire respects our men and women in uniform and preserves their right to vote.

As one veteran to another, I call on you to boycott the Iowa presidential precinct caucuses and to tell Iowans you are not going back to the state unless and until they stop discriminating against our men and women in uniform as well as other people who can’t physically get to a “caucus” location. The Iowa way is not the American way.

By boycotting Iowa’s unconstitutional presidential precinct process I am still supporting and upholding the principles of the United states Constitution. I hope you will join me in doing so.

And next time you come to New Hampshire, spend a little time. Don’t just fly in and fly out. I am walking across the state to protest an outrageous high voltage transmission line. Bring some walking shoes and walk a mile with me.

Respectfully,

ANDY MARTIN
