NEWS CONFERENCE: Republican Presidential candidate Andy Martin says Rick Perry must withdraw as a candidate for the White House

Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a 4:00 P.M. Chicago news conference Wednesday to ask that Texas Governor Rick Perry withdraw as a presidential candidate. Andy says Perry’s latest remarks abut President Obama’s birth certificate are so asinine and ill-informed they undermine Perry’s credibility as a candidate for national office. “Rick Perry has now demonstrated once-and-for-all he can’t think on his feet,” Andy says. “This deficiency effectively ends Perry’s campaign.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ANNOUNCEMENT OF CHICAGO PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN NEWS CONFERENCE

ATTENTION NATIONAL AND CHICAGO DAYBOOK/ASSIGNMENT EDITORS

Independent Republican Presidential Candidate Andy Martin says Governor Rick Perry’s “Campaign 2.0” has “crashed and burned”

Andy says Perry’s asinine remarks about President Obama’s birth certificate undermine legitimate scholarly inquiry into Obama's opaque origins

Andy says “Rick Perry’s latest behavior is bizarre and disqualifies him as a serous candidate for the Oval office”

Andy says “The John Harwood interview confirms once and for all Rick Perry can’t think on his feet—end of ‘debate’”

(CHICAGO) (October 26, 2011) Independent Republican Party Presidential Candidate Andy Martin will hold a Chicago news conference Wednesday to ask Texas Governor Rick Perry to end his presidential campaign. Andy says “Rick Perry says he ‘loves guns.’ Well Perry has just fired the ‘shot heard ‘round the political world.’ Perry shot himself in the foot and effectively ended his presidential campaign.

“Over the weekend the world waited. Rick Perry was about to launch ‘Presidential Campaign 2.0’ Then the wealthy Texas candidate launched his revised and revamped campaign. And he promptly crashed and burned. Perry is through as a presidential candidate. He should put himself out of his misery and withdraw. Perry proves once-and-for-all ‘Texas politics ain’t White House politics.’

“Perry was supposed to relaunch with a flat-rate tax and a back-to-work plan. Putting aside the fact that Perry rather defiantly said his plan would benefit the richest Americans, not the unemployed, Perry drew attention from his ‘plan’ with his Birther remarks. Perhaps the wealthy are Perry’s ‘base’ just as George Bush previously joked about the well-off being his ‘base.’ Maybe Perry was announcing a plan to benefit his ‘base.’ But if Perry really intended to talk about taxes he should never have allowed himself to be distracted by Birther questions.

“What renders Perry unfit for national office is that he is preternaturally stupid. Last week Perry said at the Las Vegas debate, ‘You get to ask the questions, and I get to answer them.’ He should have followed his own advice in the New York Times and Parade Magazine interviews (links below).

“Perry’s entire relaunch has been consumed by his ‘Birther’ remarks. Perry's Birther remarks are stupid in a number of ways. I say this as the person who originally created the Birther movement and who has now had to back away from some of the more crazy elements of that ‘movement.’

“We’ll have more to say about the toxic Trump-Perry ‘cocktail’ in another column, but the fact that Perry feels the need to entertain and indulge Donald Trump with Birther nonsense is scary.

“Perry says, in the tried-and-true style of Herman Cain, who also likes to ‘joke’ about serious matters, that Perry’s Birther remarks are ‘a joke.’ No they aren’t, Governor Perry. Joking about a man’s heritage is no joke. I have done eight years of real research on Barack Obama but I do not consider that research a ‘joke’ or have any less respect for Obama as a human being. And yes, although I have in the past been called the ‘King of the Birthers’ I have always maintained that President Obama was born in Hawai’i.

“Perry’s behavior is just plain weird. Below this story (links below) I document all of the strange claims Perry has made in the past several days.

“Ironically, I was just in Hawai’i (in September) once again researching Obama’s past (check earlier September-October posts on my blogs) and I am writing a series of columns on Obama’s origins I plan to issue next week. Perry’s crazy comments make it more difficult, not less, to address the serious questions about Obama’s peculiar family history. Perry’s remarks also allow the pro-Obama media to dilute my ongoing research into Obama’s origins and early life.

“For example, in his interview with the New York Times Perry mixed the ‘birth’ issue with the ‘college’ and ‘Punahou’ issues. Perry wants to see Obama’s school records. Obama’s missing academic records are a legitimate target of scholarly inquiry. I don’t have a problem with people asking to see Obama’s high school records and college files. They are now archives of American history.

“How Obama paid for college and law school are also legitimate questions, especially how Obama paid for law school. The fingerprints of Khalid Al-Mansour are all over his Harvard Law degree. But Perry tried to react to John Harwood’s (NY Times) ‘birth certificate’ question by broadening and muddying the topic. Perry’s effort backfired.

“Perry ended up demonstrating that he can't think on his feet. Perry’s poor debate performances in the past were not a fluke. He just flubbed a one-on-one interview. Perry’s fumbling makes George W. Bush look like a great public speaker.

“By inserting his nonsense about his ‘joke’ involving Obama’s birth and Donald Trump's behavior in the relaunch of his ‘Campaign 2.0’ Perry undermined his presidential aspirations in a most embarrassing way, in a way that now allows the pro-Obama media to ‘finish off’ Perry’s candidacy. Perry’s donors will probably back away as well, starving his campaign of cash to compete.

“Rick Perry owes me an apology as the ‘founder’ of the Birther movement, and he owes President Obama an apology as the target of my scholarly research and Perry’s goofy jokes. My research on Obama’s origins is not a joke. Rick Perry has become a joke.

“Rick Perry: it’s time for you to go. You’re no president. And, truth be told, you’re not really a Birther either. You’re just a joke.”

COMING WEDNESDAY: ANDY MARTIN EXPLAINS: “WHAT IS THE “BIRTHER” MOVEMENT AND WHY HAS IT BECOME SO TOXIC; WHY DOES THE “BIRTHER” MOVEMENT ENDURE AND WHY DO A MAJORITY OF AMERICANS CONTINUE TO HARBOR “BIRTHER” DOUBTS? Andy Martin provides a history of the Birther movement from 2004, when he wrote his first column questioning Barack Obama’s candor and national origins, through Andy’s latest 2011 Obama research in Honolulu earlier this month.
